Tubal infertility

Tubal infertility can be the result of damage or a blockage to the fallopian tubes

Fallopian tube damage or blockage is one of the most common causes of infertility. Tubal factor infertility is often caused by infection and can be diagnosed using a Hysterosalpingogram (HSG). This is an x-ray examination performed in a radiology department in which dye is injected through the cervix into the uterine cavity. If the fallopian tubes are open the dye flows into the tubes and then spills out to the abdominal cavity. This is documented with x-ray pictures during the procedure.

Laparoscopy can also be used to investigate tubal damage.

Either surgery or IVF will be recommended to overcome tubal infertility, your doctor will discuss which is appropriate for you.
