Embryonic Stem Cell Research
Embryos no longer able to be used for treatment by the couple can be donated to the Centre for Stem Cell Biology to be used for Embryonic Stem Cell Research to treat a range of conditions.
The Centre for Stem Cell Biology (CSCB) (University of Sheffield) is recognized internationally as a Centre of Excellence for research on stem cells. The research and discoveries of the CSCB are central to the long-term goal of developing clinical applications for pluripotent stem cells in regenerative medicine.
Embryos that are no longer able to be used for a patient's treatment may be donated (with informed consent by the couple) to the stem cell research project. Information about the project will be given to patients when they consent for research.
For further information about the details of the research, please contact the Embryology Department in the clinic or you can contact the Centre for Stem Cell Biology.
